The biggest city and the capital of the Greek island of Kos is simply Kos. This is where the local tourist and cultural center is located. The accommodation base is also well-developed. We can find here many atmospheric restaurants. In the city center is the main port, and next to it we can see the 14th century fortress built in 1315 by the knights of Saint John of Jerusalem. From the port , ships run to nearby Bodrum, Kalymnos, Pserimos and Nissyros.

We have several options for exploring the city of Kos, including a ride on a tourist train or bicycle. There is no shortage of bicycle paths, thanks to which you can easily move around the area. Scooters are also ubiquitous in the streets. We can rent one of the vehicles mentioned above without any problems

Kos is also a place from which we reach the most important  village on the island i.e. Kefalos, Kardamena, Pili, Zia or Antimachia and the beaches Mastichari, Tigaki, Marmari and Paradise Beach. We can easily get to the airport from here. And all thanks to the efficient bus station. Drivers of individual lines will not allow anyone to get lost, informing tourists to which bus they should take. It is worth mentioning that not only kindness is a strong point of communication employees, but also punctuality. Depending on the destination we have chosen, the first buses start at 7:00 and prices range from 2 to 5 euros. Timetables with the price list can be found at bus stops.

The places most frequently visited by tourists in the city of Kos are:

  • Agora, a center of public life in the past. Currently, on the square you can see the remains of the temple of Aphrodite, the colonnade from the 4th or 3rd century BC, and the ruins of the early Christian basilica.
  • Odeon Amphitheater discovered in 1920.
  • Neratzia Castle, dating from the 16th century. Its location on the peninsula made possible to control the coast of Turkey. Entrance to the castle costs 3 euros. Opening hours (except Mondays): 8:00 to 20:00.
  • Tree of Hippocrates, located in front of the entrance to the mentioned castle. Its circumference is 14 meters. The first legend says that the plane tree was planted by Hippocrates, considered the father of medicine. The second is that the master taught under it. However, the life span of a tree (560 years) excludes both theories as to its origin.
  • Well-managed beaches, with a gentle descent into the water, are also very popular.
