In Podkarpacie, in the Low Beskids, there is the picturesque town of Iwonicz Zdrój. The city with only 1,798 inhabitants is famous above all for being one of the oldest health resorts in Poland. It owes it to numerous healing springs, iodine brine wells and sulphide waters. In addition, the city is surrounded by hills with a beautiful beech and fir forest. Numerous walking and cycling routes encourage patients and tourists to active leisure. The first mention of the existence of mineral waters in Iwonicz dates back to 1413. Interest in the whole spa increased during the Renaissance, when natural sciences developed. Over the years, there have been subsequent entries regarding the healing power of the city. Count Karol Załuski, November insurgent, is considered the creator of the spa. It belonged to the Załuski family until 1945, when family members were arrested by the NKVD. In the years 1874-1890 Władysław Bełza stayed here, he organized cultural and social life. He is also the author of the first tourist sightseeing guide Iwonicz and its surroundings. A monument, funded by patients and residents, was erected in the village to commemorate Bełza’s merits. In 1914 Józef Piłsudski himself came to the city with the mission of creating Shooting Teams.
